Description

LACIE 8TB Ethernet Disk 301496U NAS Rack Mount – Original Box And Rails.
Comes with all original accessories, install CD and rack rails (if you want them). Ships in the original triple boxes.  Can be accessed through SMB from windows or OSX.  Can be used as a time machine backup for Macs.
Great condition with the following upgrades:
– LACIE software is the last version – CD has v6.3 and installed the final update to v6.3.1
– original fans replaced with new quiet fans
– original drives have been replaced with LaCie 2TB drives from a 5big. These drives are not new and are out of warranty, but have been zeroed and tested without issues
– upgraded memory to 1GB
Notes:
– LaCie uses NTFS to span a single volume over 4 drives similar to RAID 0 – which is not redundant. Which means loss of a drive means loss of data. For use as a backup drive only is my recommendation – or setup a backup solution for this data via USB.
– the LaCie installation software only recognizes 4TB by default for some reason. To reinstall the 8TB I installed the disk pairs separately, and then the server automatically combined the drives to a single volume when first booted which was nice, and I formatted. Alternatively you could place 4TB as a backup volume and backup one pair to the other.
– it has just been reset to factory defaults and reformatted
– I have the LaCie rack rails and will include if you want – it does increase weight
– I have tried installing several SATA RAID cards to replace the SATA expansion card and make this a RAID NAS without success… the LACIE software install does not have the drivers to recognize a RAID card. In the standard configuration, two drives mount to the motherboard, and two drives connect to the SATA expansion card.
